Recruitment and Selection: Recruitment is the process of searching for prospective employees and stimulating them to apply for jobs in the organization.On the other hand ,Selection is the process of selecting a qualified person who can successfully do a job and can deliver valuable contributions to the organization.

DefinitionRecruitment is the process of searching for prospective employees and stimulating them to apply for jobs in the organization.Selection is the process of selecting a qualified person who can successfully do a job and can deliver valuable contributions to the organization.
ObjectiveThe main objective of recruitment is to identify probable applicants and invite them to apply for the vacant position.But,the main objective of selection is to select or pick up the best candidate for the job and reject the rest.
Dependency The success of recruitment is not dependent on selection process.The success of slection process is dependent on recruitmet process.
CostRecruitment is not expensive in comparision to selection because it only involves some of the advertising costs.Selection process is expensive in comparision to recruitment because it involves different types of tests, interviews,fees of experts,etc.
OrderRecruitment proceeds with a selection. ie; recruitment comes before selection. Recruitment provides the candidates for selection.Selection follows recruitment. ie; selection comes after recruitment. Selection is done from the candidates who are provided by recruitment.
Staff/Line functionRecruitment is done by the personnel department. The personnel department consists of staff officers. So recruitment is a staff function.Selection is done by the particular department which has a vacancy.Therefore, selection is a line function.
Expert HelpRecruitment is a simple process because it does not require much help from the experts.Selection is a complex process. Therefore, it requires much help from the experts in order to conduct tests, interviews ,etc.
