Difference between Recruitment and Selection
Recruitment
→ Recruitment is the process of searching for prospective employees and stimulating them to apply for jobs in the organization. It is the linking activity bringing together those with jobs and those seeking jobs.
→ In other words, it is the process of searching prospective employees and stimulating them to apply for jobs in organization.
→ On the other hand, job-seekers are also seeking employers. Recruitment is a linkage activity that connects job seekers with employers. Recruitment refers to identifying the source from which potential employees can be selected.
→ Higher productivity, higher wages, higher morale, a smaller labour turnover rate, enhanced reputation, and higher wages are a result of scientific recruitment.
→ Therefore, applying for jobs is a positive thing because it stimulates people to apply.
→ Recruitment deals with seeking out, attracting, and ensuring a supply of qualified employees and selecting requisite manpower both quantitatively and qualitatively.
→ Human resources need to be developed and maintained. The selection process begins with this stage and ends with placement.
Factors Influencing Recruitment
Size of the Enterprise
→ A company’s size will determine how many people it needs to hire. While a large company employs more people at regular intervals, a small company has fewer employees.
→ Whenever a big business house is looking for sources of supply, it will try to engage more people and make the right selection.
→ Such a company has the capacity to invest more in finding potential candidates. Thus, the size of an enterprise will affect the recruitment process.
Employment Conditions
→ Recruitment is greatly influenced by the employment conditions in an economy. There are limited employment opportunities in underdeveloped economies, but there are ample prospects.
→ Meanwhile, there may not be suitable candidates available due to a lack of educational and technical facilities.
→ The selection of a person from a large number becomes easier when there is a greater number of persons available. The problem is that, if there aren’t enough qualified technical personnel, it will be difficult to find suitable individuals.
Salary Structure and Working Conditions
→ A company’s wages and working conditions greatly affect its ability to attract and retain employees. When the enterprise pays higher wages than similar concerns, it will have no trouble recruiting.
→ When a company offers low wages, turnover is common. Employees’ job satisfaction will be determined by the working conditions in an organization.
→ It is more likely that employees will remain at their current jobs when they have better working conditions, such as proper sanitation, lighting, ventilation, etc.
→ A deterioration in working conditions may lead to employees leaving their jobs, resulting in a need for new candidates.
Rate of Growth
→ Recruitment is also affected by the growth rate of an enterprise. As the enterprise grows, new employees will be needed. Several employees will also be promoted, which means there will be vacancies to fill.
→ Only when the current incumbent retires or leaves, etc., can a stagnant enterprise recruit.
Selection
→ Selection is the process of selecting a qualified person who can successfully do a job and can deliver valuable contributions to the organization. In any organization, selection refers to the process of picking the best candidate to fill a vacancy for a job position.
→ The selection process can also be explained as interviewing and evaluating the candidates and picking out the candidate who has the skills and qualities required for that particular position.
→ When a suitable candidate is selected for a vacant position, an organization will benefit from this and achieve its goals.
→ Hiring good resources can increase the overall performance of an organization, so selecting them is a crucial process.
→ By contrast, if a bad hire is made using a bad selection process, the work will suffer, as will the cost for replacing that bad resource.
→ In a selection process, the best candidate will be chosen based on their suitability for the job, who will be a successful applicant.
→ A candidate’s qualifications, skills, experience, overall attitude, etc. should all be evaluated to determine whether they meet the organization’s goals.
→ After eliminating the candidates who are not suitable for the vacant job, the most suitable candidate is selected.
→ When a job candidate is hired the organization has to follow a proper selection process or procedure, since a huge amount of money is spent.
→ It will cost an employer a large amount of money, effort, and time to induct and train the wrong candidate if the selection is wrong. In other words, selection is critical to the success of the organization, and the selection process should be flawless.
